Describe the endpoint at each interface
For every removal area, identify the retained neighbour: another room, a floor finish, a window, a cabinet or an external surface. Ask how the boundary will be recorded. A labelled photograph or marked drawing can explain a junction more clearly than a general room name.
Separate full removal from making an area ready for a particular new product. An exposed surface is not automatically suitable for immediate installation. The receiving trade should explain what it needs and who will assess or prepare the remaining substrate.
Keep uncertain layers visible in the brief
A surface can conceal other layers and services. List known layers from records and label the rest unknown. Do not ask an occupant to open the assembly to complete the enquiry. The assessment should determine how uncertainty affects the proposed scope and any further investigation.
If the agreed line cannot be achieved without affecting something intended to remain, the issue should return for a decision. A removal instruction does not automatically authorize repairs, structural alteration or a wider strip-out.
Confirm the boundary before work
Walk through the marked scope with the project decision-maker and relevant contractors. Record any changes in the same document set used for the quote. Send YAK a plain description of the boundary you need and identify any remaining surfaces whose condition matters to the next stage.
Bring these details
- Mark adjoining retained surfaces
- Separate removal from preparation
- Document unresolved concealed layers
