During and after work

Prepare a handover for the next trade

The next contractor needs to know what was removed, what remains and what is still uncertain. A handover package carries that information forward. It is especially useful when the person attending the site was not involved in the original demolition assessment.

Describe the received condition

Record the areas completed and any agreed limits. Include current photographs from accessible positions and identify where the removal stopped. Note retained elements or stored items that the next trade must recognize.

Do not describe a surface as suitable for a new installation unless the relevant party has assessed it. The demolition endpoint and the next trade’s acceptance criteria should have been discussed, but the exposed condition may still require a decision.

Transfer the unresolved information

List discoveries, excluded tasks and any remaining questions. Identify the owner of each decision and attach the relevant report or instruction where it is available. A verbal comment made during demolition can be lost when contractors change.

Share only the documents needed for the next stage. Keep private household information and unrelated commercial records out of the package. If an inspection or specialist confirmation is required, identify its actual status rather than using “all clear” as a general description.

Confirm receipt and responsibility

Ask the receiving contractor to identify gaps before its planned start. Record who now controls access and who handles any outstanding demolition items. Tell YAK what work is expected to follow your proposed removal so the information needed at this handoff can be considered in the scope.
