Confirm the waste route before demolition begins

A bin is a collection method, not proof that every material in a demolition scope can go to the same destination. Confirm the material stream, hauler and receiving facility before the removal plan assumes a single disposal route.

Describe the waste before choosing the destination

Separate known ordinary debris from materials needing specialist assessment or a different acceptance process. Use the material survey and scope to identify uncertainty. Do not describe unidentified material as clean simply because it comes from a residential property.

EWSWA distinguishes regional landfill access from its other depots and publishes acceptance restrictions for commercial users. Its landfill information also identifies special conditions for asbestos. Those conditions are not permission for an owner or general demolition contractor to handle or transport hazardous material.

Ask the receiving facility the right questions

The responsible hauler should confirm that the proposed material, its origin, the vehicle and the load arrangement meet current facility requirements. Mixed loads, recyclable items and restricted material may need different arrangements. A past delivery or another contractor’s account does not establish acceptance for this job.

Record the intended destination and any required separation before loading begins. If conditions change or a different material is discovered, return to the assessment and acceptance process. Do not conceal an uncertain material inside a general load.

Make responsibility and evidence clear

EWSWA’s regional landfill lists unidentified chemical waste and industrial or commercial chemical waste as restricted materials. Stored liquids or unknown containers found in a shed should therefore stay outside an ordinary mixed-debris assumption until the appropriate provider confirms a route. The written scope should identify who supplies collection, who transports each stream, who resolves rejected loads and what records are provided. Agree whether retained or salvaged items leave with the owner instead. This avoids confusing removal from the room with completion of the waste obligation.

Ask YAK about the proposed collection and disposal boundaries during assessment. Confirm the receiving facility, the materials it accepts and any collection or transport arrangements before work begins.
