Plan hot-tub removal around services and the route out

Hot-tub removal starts with understanding how the tub reached its position and what now surrounds it. Fences, decks, gates and landscaping may have changed since installation. The tub, its services and its supporting base are separate scope decisions.

Describe the installation

Provide photographs of the tub and the full route to the accessible loading area. Include gates, steps, narrow passages and any enclosure. Share model information if available, but do not assume it determines a removal method without a site assessment.

State whether the tub is to be retained, sold or disposed of. A requirement to keep it intact changes the assessment and needs a recipient and collection plan. A decorative screen, deck surround or roof should be listed separately rather than assumed to come out with the tub.

Resolve services before handling

Identify known electrical, water and drainage arrangements and the qualified parties responsible for disconnecting them. ESA requires hired electrical work in Ontario to be carried out by a Licensed Electrical Contractor. An unplugged-looking control panel is not evidence that all electrical work is complete.

Tell the assessor whether the tub sits on a deck, slab or another base. Removing the tub does not confirm that the supporting structure can remain unchanged or is suitable for a new use. If the base is also coming out, include that as a separate item with its own assessment.

Agree the site endpoint

Describe what should remain after removal and assign any fence reinstatement, deck repairs or landscaping. Access over neighbouring property requires permission; do not treat it as an assumed option. Send YAK the installation details, service status and intended outcome so the enquiry can be evaluated without promising intact recovery or a particular access method.

Bring these details

  • State reuse versus disposal.
  • Confirm service disconnection responsibility.
  • List enclosure, base and access alterations separately.
