Map essential household needs
Identify the entrance, sleeping areas, washroom access and other spaces the household would need. Explain any mobility, sensory or health-related requirements in the level of detail needed for planning, without sending private medical records through an enquiry form.
Include children, visitors and pets in the conversation. A work boundary must remain understandable to people who are unfamiliar with the site. Do not assume that occupants can pass through the work zone because they normally use that route.
Ask for an occupancy decision
Discuss access, dust separation, services, noise and the activities proposed for each stage. The contractor and relevant professionals should identify whether continued occupancy is appropriate and what conditions would change that decision. A general service description cannot answer this for a specific house.
If a required room or route will be unavailable, arrange a practical alternative before work begins. Treat any proposed accommodation arrangement as a planning dependency rather than asking workers to improvise around household activity.
Keep the arrangement current
Review the plan when the scope changes or new conditions are discovered. Record who tells the household that an area is unavailable and who can confirm that the agreed access arrangement has changed. Tell YAK early if you hope to remain at the property so that occupancy can be considered during assessment.
