Inventory what needs a place
Separate existing possessions, items being recovered and materials for later work. Record ownership, condition and the person responsible for moving each category. Ask whether handling or storage is included in any contractor’s scope rather than assuming it is part of demolition.
Identify items that need a suitable specialist arrangement. Do not use the demolition area as a holding space for unknown materials or connected equipment. Leave the assessment of hazardous or unusual items to the appropriate provider.
Check the location against the whole plan
A storage space must not quietly replace an agreed access route, retained room or collection area. Review the proposed location with the responsible project team. Consider how items will be retrieved without passing through a restricted work area.
Do not assume an available floor, loft or outdoor surface is suitable for the proposed storage. Load, exposure and security questions may need assessment. Record the limitations and choose an alternative where the location cannot be confirmed suitable.
Assign the exit plan
Give each category a planned destination after demolition and name the person responsible for collection. A late pickup can prevent the next stage from receiving the space. Tell YAK about storage that will remain on the property so the scope and access assessment can account for it.
Bring these details

- Check conflicts with access
- Assign collection and final destinations
