Schedule the components
Give each opening a room-to-room description. List the door leaf, frame, architrave, threshold, skirting returns and hardware individually. Mark any item that remains. Where matching trim continues around the room, show the exact stopping point.
If a door is to be reused, record its destination and any required hardware. Recovery depends on the existing installation and condition. Do not assume an old door is suitable for a new opening or a different fire-separation function simply because it can be removed intact.
Check the opening’s role
Before changing the opening itself, ask the responsible designer or building professional about structural and separation requirements. Shared corridors, unit entrances and service rooms may have requirements that are not apparent from a photograph. A door-removal enquiry is not approval to leave an opening unprotected.
Electrical access controls, alarms and other fitted systems should be identified for the relevant trade. Older coatings and concealed materials may also need assessment before disturbance. Provide records rather than asking the demolition assessor to infer composition from appearance.
Agree the finished boundary
Tell YAK whether the opening stays the same size and who will repair adjacent plaster, flooring and paint. State whether the property remains occupied and whether the door is needed to separate a work area. With these details, the removal package can be assessed without folding new joinery, security or design work into it.
Bring these details
- List leaf, frame, trim and hardware separately.
- Confirm whether the opening size changes.
- Identify required separation, security and repair work.
