Manage demolition decisions when you are off site

An owner who is away from the property needs a reliable local arrangement and a clear way to make decisions. Photographs and messages can support that arrangement, but they cannot replace every on-site review or professional assessment.

Choose an authorized local contact

Identify who can arrange access, attend a walkthrough and receive practical updates. Explain whether that person may approve changes or only relay information. Put any required authority in the appropriate form rather than leaving contractors to infer it from a family relationship or possession of keys.

Keep access details separate from the general project record and share them only through an agreed method. A web enquiry should describe the need for local coordination without including security codes or private documents.

Ask for decision-ready updates

An update should identify the location, the observed condition and the question requiring your answer. Request context photographs where they can be taken safely, plus the relevant scope or drawing reference. A close-up without a room name can be difficult to interpret remotely.

If the matter requires professional judgement, ask for that assessment rather than deciding from the image yourself. Record the decision, its basis and the instruction returned to the team. Keep unresolved matters visible when you are temporarily unavailable.

Plan the handoff before the end

Decide who will attend the completion review and how outstanding items will be recorded. Agree how keys, documents and retained property will be received. Tell YAK early if you are managing the request remotely so the assessment and decision process can be discussed realistically.
