Describe the shed as it exists
Identify the approximate dimensions and visible construction, and photograph it from accessible locations. Include nearby fences, trees and buildings. Tell the assessor if the shed is leaning, damaged or difficult to approach; do not enter an unstable structure for better pictures.
List contents, shelving and other fitted items separately. Specify what the owner will clear and what is part of the enquiry. Unknown chemicals, fuel containers or other unusual stored materials need to be identified rather than treated as ordinary demolition debris.
Choose the base outcome
Explain whether the slab, paving, timber platform or other base should remain. If a new shed is planned, ask its supplier or designer about the support they require. Keeping an old base is a proposal for assessment, not confirmation that it is suitable for the replacement.
Disclose any known electrical connection, water supply or buried service nearby. Check the actual proposal with the municipality rather than assuming a minor structure is exempt. If access depends on removing a fence panel or using neighbouring land, establish that permission and reinstatement responsibility.
Prepare the site brief
Tell YAK the intended use after removal, the narrowest known access and whether vegetation or stored items obstruct the work area. Distinguish structure removal from base removal, clearing and landscaping. A clear endpoint allows the assessor to consider the shed without promising an unspecified finished garden or replacement foundation.
Write two separate lines for the shed and its base
A useful hypothetical enquiry is: assess removal of the timber shed and its fitted shelves, with loose contents cleared by the owner; retain the existing paving for the next supplier to inspect. If the base also needs to come out, add that as a second line with the intended ground condition and any known service information.
Mention the narrowest gate, any steps and whether access crosses someone else’s land. A bin booking or collection of loose shed panels is a different arrangement from dismantling an intact structure. State which condition exists so the assessment begins with the right task.
